The main goal of Siljun Dobup is “controlling the mind” through “controlling the body”. In Siljun Dobup, constant practice of sword enables one to take control of his/her body, and experience how the mind changes to follow the body. Thus, we firmly believe that by practicing Siljun Dobup, we all can truly become the master of our mind, body and eventually, our destiny.
As we take effort to train our body through sword practice, we realize how awkward and difficult it is to genuinely take control of our own body. Nevertheless, we gradually become at ease with our body and our mind follows and begins to align with the body and become more flexible.
The next stage is to wonder whether we are capable of controlling our mind as well. As we consistently immerse in a virtual reality of desperate sword fighting, at some point, we find ourselves looking down at our everyday problems and emotions.
By becoming the master of our mind, we are able to cut off negative thoughts and move on to a positive state.
It is to that end why USSDA believes the sword acts as an important tool at a time when many people focus on mastering their minds through various means of zen meditation.
